Zhawenjigewin

(a blessing)

I created this piece to honor the animals that have sustained my family and me throughout the years. It features the skull from my first deer—affectionately named Buns of Steel—and the hide from my father’s most recent hunt. In our family, hunting is done with deep respect and purpose: to provide nourishment, never for sport. We give thanks to the animals that feed us and strive to use every part, wasting nothing. This piece is a tribute—an expression of gratitude—for the lives that have been given so that ours may continue.
